Petits-déjeuners scientifiques


La Mission pour la Science et la Technologie organise, avec le Scientific Diplomatic Club, des petits déjeuners scientifiques (science breakfast) mensuels. Cette opération, initialement pensée comme une suite de conférences, consiste à faire intervenir une personnalité américaine du monde de la science et de la technologie devant une audience de conseillers et attachés des ambassades de Washington.

Depuis la première session, tenue en janvier 2007, l’intérêt a été soutenu, avec une assistance de 24 à 35 auditeurs extérieurs à l’ambassade de France, représentant 15 à 20 pays. Chacun de ces petits déjeuners a été ainsi l’occasion de renforcer les liens avec les responsables américains, mais aussi de les interroger dans un cadre favorable. L’une des retombées aura été la visite en France du Under Secretary for Science du Department of Homeland Security, visite qui devrait conduire à un accord pour renforcer la coopération en R&D liée à la sécurité.

    Dr. Orbach discussed the challenges and opportunities present for energy research in the domains of solar energy, electrical energy storage, bioenergy, nuclear energy, hydrogen economy, and fusion. He also spoke about the DOE Office of Science’s Energy Frontier Research Centers and cooperative international projects (e.g. ITER in France).

    Dr. Sharon Hrynkow is Associate Director, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), NIH. Dr. Hrynkow discussed the state of neuroscience globally : the impact of neurological and psychiatric disorders, the global span of scientific pursuit, and global challenges. Representatives of the Society for Neuroscience discussed international neuroscience organizations, the growth of the Society for Neuroscience’s international chapters. The SfN also offered an overview of the upcoming DC meeting in November and how the organization hopes to partner with embassies.
