The previously uncompleted construction of the first underwater neutrino telescope has just been finished. Since the beginning of June, Antares has been scouring the depths of the Mediterranean Sea in search of neutrinos from the cosmos. There are 12 detectors trying to capture elementary particles that witnessed the Universe’s most violent phenomena. The work is a collaboration between CEA-Irfu, IN2P3-CNRS, INSU-CNRS and Ifremer.
