Using metals to treat cancer?

A productive collaboration between chemists and biologists has allowed for the identification of a new class of molecules, polyoxometallates, composed primarily of metals and oxygen. These molecules specifically and very powerfully inhibit protein-kinase CK2, an enzyme that is hyperactive in numerous cancers.
