What is the ABG?

Since its foundation in 1980, the Association Bernard Gregory has been working as a non-profit organization to bring together both academic and business spheres by supporting the professional mobility of new and recent PhDs into the business world.

Main activities

¯     Job search: the ABG publishes job opportunities specifically aiming at young PhDs.

¯     Profile search: the ABG runs an online resume databank that employers can search for profiles of young PhDs.

¯     Career advice: the ABG relies on a network of 300 correspondents in universities and research centers in France, in several European countries as well as in the USA and in Japan. They provide individual support to new PhDs in structuring their career plans, in writing a CV aimed at the non-academic sector, and they follow them through to their recruitment.

¯     Information: We give continuous information about alumni career paths, job market or opportunities for professional contacts to PhD students, new and recent PhDs and postdocs. Three media are available: www.abg.asso.fr web site, Docteurs & Co quarterly magazine and, last but not least, our electronic Weekly Bulletin. We publish most of this information in French and in English.

¯     Training: the ABG promotes new kind of training to prepare PhD students to face the job market (Doctoriales seminars, A New Chapter in the Thesis).

2004 Key figures

¯     Companies posted 700 job offers and ordered 2500 resume.

¯     The ABG also advertised 1,300 academic positions and 1,400 PhD topics

¯     Audience records: 400,000 visits per month on the web, 25,000 subscribers to the Weekly Bulletin, 10,000 subscriber to Docteurs & Co magazine

¯     1,500 PhD students attend Doctoriales seminars each year.
