From March 19-26, the third edition of the Atlanta Science Festival will be held in Atlanta, bringing together more than a hundred scientific events over the week-long celebration of Science. For this third edition, the scientific office of the French Consulate in Atlanta, in partnership with the Fernbank Science Center, is organizing a photographic exhibit blending France’s culture of mathematical excellence with an artistic touch.

Through the eyes of French photographer Vincent Moncorgé, a photography exhibit will offer you the unique opportunity to take a look at the day-to-day lives of researchers in mathematics at the Henri Poincaré Institute, an internationally-leading French institution in mathematics in Paris and to explore its collection of strange physical models, used to visualize mathematical concepts.

This photography exhibit will be on display at the Fernbank Science Center from March 19 to April 2 at the Fernbank Science Center.

About the photographer

Vincent Moncorgé is a French independent photographer based in Lyon, France where he works as a photojournalist and portraitist with the national and international press, regional governments, companies and communication agencies. ln conjunction with his commissioned work, he has been working on a long, personal project that seeks to put a face on "what scientists do." To this end, he has worked closely for several years with French scientific institutions.

The book "The Home of Mathematics," about the Henri Poincaré Institute, was published in collaboration with with mathematician Cédric Villani (Fields medal, 2010) and cosmologist Jean-Philippe Uzan.

About Atlanta Science Festival

For this third edition, the Office for Science and Technology of the French consulate in Atlanta organizes two scientific events highlighting the French tradition of excellence in mathematics through an artistic approach :

- An "Arts and Mathematics" exhibition from March 19 to April 2
- A Science Café with Dr. Rémi Molinier on "Mathematical Shapes in Nature" on March 25

This exhibition is brought to you through a partnership between photographer Vincent Moncorgé, the Office for Science and Technology of the French Consulate in Atlanta, the Henri Poincaré Institute and the Fernbank Science Center.
