In partnership with the Gérontopôle du Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Toulouse, the Office for Science and Technology organized the 2015 French American Biotech Symposium (FABS) on December 2, 2015. This event took place at the Hôtel-Dieu of Toulouse, at the same time as the Nursing Homes Convention organized by the l’International Association of Geriatrics and Gerontology.
The theme of this year’s symposium was the "Prevention in the home and the establishment of health centers: A new mission for the future".
This annual French-American workshop has spurred cooperative efforts between French-American specialists towards addressing the needs and expectation of nursing homes and their residents. Moreover, these experts generally agreed that traditional geriatric polypharmaceutical practices should be abandoned in favor of non-medicinal interventions that aim for disease prevention and autonomy maintenance.
These professionals also discussed potential architectural innovations for these facilities, new technological possibilities, and groundbreaking multi-domain interventions that could all guarantee a higher quality of life for older adults.
The next installment of this event, FABS2016, will focus on “new medicinal and non-medicinal approaches towards Alzheimer’s disease prevention.” FABS2016 will be organized in San Diego next to the Clinical Trials on Alzheimer’s Disease conference, which will take place December 8 – 10, 2016.
