Mission of the France-Stanford Center

The France-Stanford Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, founded in partnership with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, bridges the disciplines of the humanities, social sciences, engineering, business and law, addressing issues of significance for France and the U.S. from a broad range of perspectives. It is part of Stanford Global Studies in the School of Humanities and Sciences.

Collaborative Projects Call for Proposals

The France-Stanford Center seeks to fund research projects across all disciplines. Priority will be given to projects with the potential to develop new collaborations involving junior researchers, and to those leading to collaborative work on interdisciplinary issues.
Funding: up to $15,000.

Visiting Student Researcher Fellowship

Call for Applications
Available to graduate students affiliated with a French institution who are interested in pursuing research at Stanford, and to Stanford graduate students interested in undertaking research or pursuing an internship at a French institution. Applicants for the Visiting Student Researcher Fellowship must be graduate students: they must be pursuing either a master’s or doctoral degree.
Funding:

  • Projects lasting 2 months up to $5,000
  • Projects lasting 3 months up to $6,000
  • Projects lasting 4 months up to $7,000

Call for Conferences/Workshops Proposals

Conferences, to be held at Stanford or at any French research institution, should address significant issues of common interest to scholars from France and Stanford, and particularly, but not exclusively, those subject to differences of disciplinary or interdisciplinary approach in or between the two countries.

Visiting Junior Scholar Fellowship

Call for Applications
Available to junior scholars from either Stanford or France seeking a research visit either in a French institution or at Stanford. Fellowships are available to postdoctoral students as well as scholars who have completed a Ph.D. no more than three years from the date of applying for the fellowship and who hold a tenure-track/permanent (rather than postdoctoral) position.
Funding:

  • Projects lasting 3 months up to $6,000
  • Projects lasting 4 months up to $7,000

Undergraduate Fellowship Call for Applications

Intended to fund Stanford undergraduates interested in undertaking research or pursuing an internship at a French institution.

  • Projects lasting 3 months up to $5,500
  • Projects lasting 4 months up to $7,000
