The Office for Science and Technology of the Embassy of France in the United States is organizing the first edition of the French American Doctoral Exchange Seminar (FADEx) for PhD students on chemical analysis at the nanoscale on March 17-18, 2014 in Toulouse, France. The objective of the seminar is to enhance scientific exchanges between young researchers, increase mutual awareness of laboratories of excellence in this field and to possibly trigger collaborations between US and French laboratories through PhD students.

The 2-day seminar will take place at Cemes in Toulouse, France and will give PhD students the opportunity to present their work to their peers and discuss their results freely. Moreover, the seminar will also include four lectures by nanoscale chemical analysis experts. In addition, in order to initiate US Ph.D. students to the French research system, visits of French laboratories in the field of “chemical analysis at the nanoscale” in Toulouse and Grenoble will be organized. In this way the students will have the opportunity to meet with the researchers and faculty members in their environment, to engage in discussions with the students in the lab and to learn about the French scientific culture.
