"Oceans and the Census of Marine Life : A Symposium on Ocean Exploration, Governance and Ten Years of Discovery"

The symposium on Marine Biodiversity, to be hosted on October 19th, 2010, by the Embassy of France in Washington DC., aims to provide an audience of 50 to 60 participants involved in biodiversity preservation – (NGOs, Think tanks and foundations, Federal Agencies, etc.) with insights on current marine biodiversity issues, from scientific exploration to international governance. In the latter part of the symposium, sessions will be open to the larger public (notably journalists) for the first official presentation in the United States of the Census of Marine Life findings.

The symposium will consist of moderated round table discussions. It should allow significant time for discussion and exchanges regarding the Census of Marine Life and the themes relevant to the movie “Océans,” which will be screened at the Museum of Natural History on the Mall starting at 6:30 PM. The time frame is 1 PM to 5:45 PM. This event is by invitation only and is non-transferable.
