The very first Congress of the Academy of Applied Myofunctional Sciences (AAMS) will be taking place September 9-13, 2015 in Downtown Los Angeles. Over thirty medical and healthcare experts will make their way from around the world to the luxurious Millennium Biltmore Hotel to attend the Congress, which will revolve around research developments in the field of Myofunctional Therapy. This rapidly growing, multidisciplinary field seeks to discover therapy methods through the use of simple exercises that will ameliorate or optimize muscle functionality. Such methods are currently being utilized in a wide range of applications including sleep apnea, chewing and swallowing difficulty, and digestive disorders. The AAMS is a non-profit NGO with members that span the globe with an aim to support research and awareness of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy.
The Congress will include discussions with panels of renown experts in the field as well as presentations on the cutting-edge research being done. Also, we are very excited to announce that French scientist, Dr. Christian Guilleminault, of Stanford University will be receiving the AAMS Hippocrates Award for Contribution to Medicine with Myofunctional Therapy at the Congress. In addition, our compatriot will participate in three panel discussions and deliver a keynote address at the Congress. As one of the pioneers of the field of sleep medicine, Dr. Guilleminault is also the field’s most published and cited researcher and on the Advisory Board of the AAMS.

We would also like to mention that Professor Guilleminault has received grant funding from the France-Stanford Center for Interdisciplinary Studies to conduct the France-Stanford Sleep Project. This is a program of the Office for Science and Technology of the French Embassy in the United States, and we anticipate to see even more of his wonderful work in the future.
We congratulate Professor Guilleminault on his great accomplishment and on his wonderful contributions to the world of sleep medicine. There will also be an Award Gala Dinner in celebration of the achievements of Dr. Guilleminault and other awardees.
The event will be attended by various industry professionals. Undergraduate and Graduate students and anyone interested in this field are encouraged to attend the event.
